Proboscar is a Past Tribeless Creature in the Alliances Unraveled set.

Description[]

Proboscar resembles a four-tusked woolly mammoth with a snake like mouth at the end of its trunk which it uses to crush and kill opponents and creatures. He has a troll like face underneath.

Rulings[]

  • "Tribeless" specifically refers to the status of a Creature possessing no Tribe, and therefore, "Tribeless" is never treated as a Tribe.
  • Proboscar's first ability combined with Swift enables him to use his ability to pass through any unoccupied space and attack a Creature. Therefore, this combination allows him to attack any Creature next to an unoccupied space.
  • Because Proboscar relocates a Creature that he attacks into his own space instead of landing in the opponent's space, he effectively forces that Creature to attack him; this means that Defender cannot be used when Proboscar starts a combat.

Strategy[]

Proboscar has two unique movement-based abilities that make him quite tricky to deal with. Because he relocates enemies into his space when attacking, effectively forcing the opponent to attack him, Proboscar completely ignores enemies with Defender, and his first ability lets him easily exploit gaps in the enemy lines to threaten their backrow.

Proboscar is extremely lethal if given Range and Swift, letting him go straight for the opponent's weakest support Creatures without risk of Defender interference. This also lets him remain in place to obstruct the enemy. Additionally, Swift combined with his movement ability allows Proboscar to attack any enemy Creature next to an empty space. As Proboscar lacks Elements, he works best in a Discipline-based deck focused on Speed and, to a lesser extent, Power; Lanker and Ikkatosh, the Aich King are both great support Creatures for Proboscar.

Because of his highly threatening presence, Proboscar is often a high-priority target for enemies going first. If your deck is built around exploiting Proboscar's abilities, run two copies in case the opponent gets the first turn and one of your copies is defeated.
